Gambling - making or laying a bet, gaming

Raffles (or lottery) - an event in which numbered tickets are sold, some of which are drawn at random to win prizes. The prizes in a raffle can be objects or money. Raffles are usually held in order to raise money for some cause or organisation.

Licensing - to give official permission for somebody to do something or for an activity to take place

Registration - a list or register of a group of people

Regulatorperson or organisation responsible for monitoring and controlling something


Gambling and Raffles

Fund raising using gambling may need approval from the Jersey Gambling Commission (JGC), which is the regulator for gambling activity in the Island.

If you need approval for gambling, or would like any information about the law that applies to gambling, please contact the JGC. Their website contains information such as application forms, public consultations and news releases relating to all forms of remote gambling, land-based commercial gambling. licensing and social and charitable gambling in Jersey.

Collecting in Public

If you want to take a collection in public places it needs the permission of the Bailiff under Customary Law powers. A person who collects in public without the Bailiff’s permission is breaking the Law.
