1. The Index of Average Earningscompares changes from one year to the next in the earnings of almost 15,000 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees from a representative sample of private sector businesses and substantially all States Departments. The Total number of FTE employees covered by this survey represents nearly a third of the total working in Jersey.

2. Full time and part-time staff are aggregated as full-time equivalents. Average earnings in each sector in the last week of June are weighted together according to the sectoral share of total employment. Salaries paid monthly or four-weekly are converted to a weekly equivalent figure for the purposes of the index.
