Founded in 1995. Aims to provide helpful information, support and understanding for people who suffer from depression and for their carers. Research into the causes of and the treatments for depression.
Provides newsletters and leaflets on various aspects of depression.
National network of self-help groups, penfriend scheme, written advisory service, conferences.
International federation for Research and Education on Depression (iFred)
Objects: To support and encourage people suffering from, or who have suffered from, depression on a self/mutual help basis. To exchange information on depression, to encourage the formation of local groups.
Activities: Publishing a newsletter; holding public meetings; running a penfriend scheme; providing information and support for depressives, and advice to local groups; maintaining a booklist.
MDF The Bi Polar Organisation
Established in 1983 the Manic Depression Fellowship (MDF) is a national user-led organisation and registered charity for people whose lives are affected by manic depression. MDF aims to enable people affected by manic depression (bi-polar) to take control of their lives through the services that we offer members.
These include: MDF self help groups, information and publications, employment advice, the MDF Self Management Training Programme, a 24-hour Legal Advice Line for employment, legal, benefits and debt issues, a travel insurance scheme.
