Respite care services
The main aim of the respite service is to provide support to families and parents of children with special needs. This is achieved by providing regular programmed care for children at Oakwell and Aviemore allowing a break for parents and others who otherwise care for dependent special needs children twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week. whilst attending the respite homes the children benefit from structured play activity, physiotherapy and associated care techniques.
The specific objectives of the service are:
- To offer sessions or short term residential care for children with special needs.
- To support parents with the provision of support groups and where appropriate, individual counselling.
- To provide tailored activity programmes for individual children to promote the development of communication and social skills.
- To support the family as a whole by involving siblings and parents in the various activities centred on the home.
- To provide an outreach facility when appropriate and possible within the limitations of existing resources.
- To provide equipment and expertise to undertake a wide range of therapeutic work with children.
