Anti Discrimination Legislation

1. The Discrimination [Jersey] Law 200-  is out for consultation and can be viewed at www.statesassembly.gov.je/documents/reports/27881-37143-522008.htm . If approved by the States the law would be introduced in phases with legislation against racism being the first priority. A Tribunal for hearing discrimination cases would be established, with a maximum award of £10,000.

Jersey Community Relations Trust

2.  On the 20 January 2004 The States approved the establishment of the above trust the aim of which is to seek to eliminate discrimination on any grounds including, but not limited to, grounds of colour, race, nationality or ethnic or national origins, gender or sexual orientation, disability and age, by promoting good relations between all members of society, and seeking to achieve equality of treatment and opportunity.

The Chairman of the Trust is Dr Elena Moran and there are 8 independent trustees.
